Mumbai is witnessing a significant transformation in its rail infrastructure with 12 major projects currently underway. These projects aim to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion, and improve the overall efficiency of the rail network.

1. CSMT-Kurla 5th & 6th Line:
This project will enhance local train services by segregating local and mail/express train movements. Phase 1, Parel-Kurla (10km), is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

2. Mumbai Central-Borivali 6th Line:
The 8.9km Khar-Goregaon stretch is already completed and commissioned. Work on the remaining Goregaon-Borivali stretch is progressing rapidly.

3. Harbour Line Extension (Goregaon-Borivali):
This extension will help decongest the Andheri-Borivali section. Land acquisition is currently underway.

4. Borivali-Virar 5th & 6th Lines:
These lines are expected to relieve stress on the Borivali-Palghar fast corridor, which will be left exclusively for suburban trains. Utility shifting work is currently in progress.

5. Virar-Dahanu Road Quadrupling:
This crucial infrastructure project will greatly enhance rail connectivity and alleviate congestion in the region. Earthwork and bridge construction are currently underway.

6. Panvel-Karjat Rail Line:
With the completion of this line, Mumbai will get a new suburban rail corridor connecting Navi Mumbai with the Raigad district. Tunnelling and bridge construction are in progress.

7. Airoli-Kalwa Elevated Link:
The 3.3 km long link aims to establish seamless train connections between Vashi-Belapur and Kalyan. The first phase, Dighagaon station, has been commissioned, while land acquisition is in progress for the remaining sections.

8. Kalyan-Asangaon 4th Line:
This project will boost local train connectivity of Mumbai with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), enabling additional local train services. Land acquisition is currently underway.

10. Kalyan-Kasara 3rd Line:
Completion of this line will reduce congestion on the busy Kalyan-Kasara Suburban and mail express route and improve train mobility. Phase 1, Asangaon to Kasara, is expected to be completed by next year.

11. Naigaon-Juichandra Double Chord Line:
To avoid time loss due to engine reversal at Vasai for trains originating from Mumbai Central, Dadar, or Bandra Terminus for the Konkan Railway and southern India, this double chord line is being constructed.
