In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a case against popular YouTuber Siddharth Yadav, also known as Elvish Yadav, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The case has been filed following a FIR and charge sheet submitted by the Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) district police in Uttar Pradesh last month.
The central agency’s investigation is focused on the alleged generation of proceeds of crime and the use of illicit funds for organizing recreational parties. As part of the investigation, Yadav and others connected to the case will be questioned.
Yadav, a 26-year-old YouTuber and winner of reality show Bigg Boss OTT 2, was arrested by the Noida Police on March 17 in connection with the suspected use of snake venom as a recreational drug at parties he allegedly hosted. The police booked him under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Wildlife Protection Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The case originated from a complaint filed by a representative of animal rights NGO People for Animals (PFA) at Noida’s Sector 49 Police Station on November 3 last year. The complaint named Yadav and five snake charmers, who were arrested in November and later released on bail by a local court. During the arrest, nine snakes, including five cobras, were rescued from their possession, and 20 ml of suspected snake venom was seized.
In April, the Noida Police submitted a charge sheet spanning over 1,200 pages, which included charges of snake trafficking, use of psychotropic substances, and organizing rave parties.
This case marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to curb money laundering and illicit activities. It serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to legal norms and regulations. Further updates on the case are awaited as the investigation progresses.
