Just days after her electoral debut, BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut found herself at the center of a controversy. The actor claimed she was assaulted and verbally abused by a CISF woman constable, Kulwinder Kaur, during a security check at Chandigarh international airport.
The incident, which occurred just two days after her victory in the Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) Lok Sabha seat, has sparked widespread debate. Kulwinder Kaur, who was reportedly upset with Kangana’s stance on the farmers’ protests, was subsequently suspended, and an FIR was lodged against her.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for airport security, has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident. In a video statement titled “Shocking rise in terror and violence in Punjab” posted after she landed in Delhi, she assured her followers that she was safe.

She detailed the incident, stating that Kulwinder Kaur had approached her from the side, hit her in the face, and began to abuse her. When asked why, Kulwinder Kaur allegedly stated her support for the farmer protests. A separate video circulating on social media shows an agitated kulwinder discussing the incident.
Kulwinder Kaur, who joined the CISF in 2009, has been part of the aviation security group at Chandigarh airport since 2021. She has had no previous vigilance inquiries or punishments against her in the force.
The incident has drawn criticism from various quarters. National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma called for serious action, stating that those responsible for security at the airport were themselves breaching security. Opposition leader and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur condemned the incident, calling it “very unfortunate” and demanding action.
It a serious matter as the people who are responsible for the security at airport are breaching the security. Strict action should be taken against the lady CISF personal. We at @NCWIndia have taken up this matter with @CISFHQrs. https://t.co/gYaAeMrdMq

State Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, who lost to Kangana Ranaut in the elections, also condemned the incident and called for action against the constable.
Kangana Ranaut, a four-time National Award winner, has been a high-profile voice supporting the ruling party on issues like the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in 2019-20 and farmer protests in 2020-21. Her political debut saw her defeating her nearest Congress rival Vikramaditya Singh by over 74,000 votes from Mandi in her home state.
However, her political journey has not been without controversy. During the agitation against the three farm laws, Kangana Ranaut allegedly misidentified a woman farmer from Punjab and called her Bilkis Bano, an octogenarian who had made international headlines during the anti-CAA protests earlier in the Delhi neighbourhood of Shaheen Bagh. She later deleted the tweet after Twitter users pointed out that both the women were different.
This recent incident underscores the volatile political climate in India, highlighting the tensions between public figures, their political stances, and the people they represent.
