A farmer in Maharashtra’s Pune district has earned over ₹2.8 crore by selling tomatoes amid soaring prices. Ishwar Gayakar, who has been cultivating tomatoes on his 12-acre farm for the past six-seven years, said that his success came through hard work and determination.
Gayakar cultivated tomatoes on 12 acres this year and has already sold approximately 17,000 crates at prices ranging from ₹770 to ₹2,311 per crate, resulting in an earning of ₹2.8 crore so far. He still has a stock of around 3,000 to 4,000 crates of tomatoes, which he expects to sell for another ₹3.5 crore.
Gayakar said that he had incurred losses several times in the past, but he never gave up. “I have always believed that hard work and determination will eventually pay off,” he said. “This year, my hard work has finally paid off.”
Gayakar’s success story has inspired other farmers in the region. Many farmers are now planning to cultivate tomatoes in the hope of earning similar profits.
The soaring prices of tomatoes have also benefited consumers. In recent months, the price of tomatoes has increased by over 200% in some parts of the country. This has led to a shortage of tomatoes in the market, and many consumers have been forced to pay higher prices for the vegetable.
Gayakar’s success story is a reminder that hard work and determination can pay off, even in the face of adversity. His story is also a testament to the importance of agriculture in India’s economy.
This extraordinary achievement has not only brought financial prosperity to the farmer but has also become an inspiration for others in the agricultural community.
