In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves across Pennsylvania, Heather Pressdee, a nurse by profession, was sentenced to an astounding 380-760 years in prison for the intentional murder of 17 patients. The victims, aged between 43 to 104 years, were administered fatal doses of insulin over a three-year period.
Pressdee was employed across five health facilities between 2020 and 2023. During this time, she was charged with giving excessive insulin doses to 22 patients, some of whom were not even diabetic. The majority of these patients died either immediately after receiving the dose or at a later time. An insulin overdose can cause hypoglycemia, increase heart rate, and even lead to heart attacks.

Her coworkers had earlier raised concerns about her conduct. Pressdee displayed a disturbing hatred towards her patients and frequently made derogatory remarks about them. In text messages to her mother, she expressed her dissatisfaction with patients, colleagues, and even individuals she encountered at restaurants, often mentioning causing harm to them.
During the court proceedings, when asked by one of her lawyers why she was pleading guilty, Pressdee responded, “Because I am guilty.” This admission of guilt, devoid of remorse, paints a chilling picture of a person who used her position of trust to commit heinous crimes.
A family member of one of the victims in the court said, “She is not sick. She is not insane. She is evil personified. I looked into the face of Satan myself the morning she killed my father.” These words echo the sentiments of many who have been affected by this case.
This case serves as a grim reminder of the potential for malevolence that can exist in those entrusted with the care of the vulnerable. It underscores the importance of vigilance, thorough background checks, and robust oversight in healthcare settings to prevent such tragedies in the future.
