Xiaomi, a renowned Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has made a bold entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of its first electric car, the SU7. Unveiled at an event on March 28, the SU7 is set to compete with industry leaders like Tesla and BYD. With its high-performance capabilities, advanced features, and competitive pricing, Xiaomi aims to carve out a significant presence in the global EV industry.

Pricing and Availability

The Xiaomi SU7, also known as the ‘Speed Ultra,’ is priced at a starting point of 215,900 yuan, approximately ₹24.90 lakh. This pricing strategy places it below the cost of the Tesla Model 3 in China, making it a competitive option for potential EV buyers. Xiaomi has announced that deliveries of the SU7 will commence this month, and the vehicle has already been showcased in several showrooms across China.

Performance, Variants and Specifications

The Xiaomi SU7 is available in four different variants: an entry-level version, a Pro variant, a Max version, and a limited Founders Edition. It is a four-door electric sedan, measuring 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and up to 1,455 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. All variants come equipped with 19-inch Michelin alloy wheels as standard.

The SU7 boasts impressive performance capabilities. The top-end Max version can reach a top speed of 265 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.78 seconds. It also offers a remarkable range of up to 810 km on a single charge. The limited Founders Edition, equipped with a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain, delivers nearly 986 bhp of power and achieves a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 1.98 seconds.

Battery and Charging Capabilities

Xiaomi has partnered with CATL to source batteries for the SU7. The entry-level models come with a 73.6 kWh battery pack, while the top-tier variant has a larger 101 kWh battery pack. These batteries provide a minimum range of 700 km on a single charge. Xiaomi also plans to introduce a larger 150 kWh battery pack next year, offering a range of 1,200 km.

The SU7 supports ultra-fast charging, facilitated by its 486V architecture. Xiaomi claims that the EV can recharge enough to cover a distance of 350 km with just 15 minutes of charging. Moreover, it offers a larger 871V architecture, enabling the EV to recharge enough to travel 510 km within the same duration of charging.

In conclusion, the Xiaomi SU7 is a promising new entrant in the EV market, offering high performance, advanced features, and competitive pricing. It will be interesting to see how it fares against established players in the industry.
